A training session for all members of the Troop’s Patrol Leader’s Council will be held on Nov 8 from 1-5 PM November 29 from 9AM to 1 PM at the Grayslake Village Hall. This meeting has now been postponed twice. Originally scheduled on Nov, 1 the Philmont Crews scheduled their shakedown at the same time. We moved it to Nov 8, but Merit Badge Day and a low response rate will force us to try again on November 29. This is essential training and it’s important to hold it when the most Scouts can attend. Since this is Thanksgiving weekend, please let me know as soon as possible if you will NOT be able to attend.
Who should attend: The patrol leaders’ council is made up of the Senior Patrol Leader, the Assistant Senior Patrol Leaders, all Patrol Leaders, Troop Guides, and other non-voting members of the PLC (Instructors, QMs, OA Troop Rep and Scribe).
What can I expect: An Introduction to Leadership Skills to enable you to run your troop.
What do I bring: Yourself in uniform, paper and pen.
Get ready to have some fun, learn a lot and become a stronger team! Please contact Mr. Klemens as to whether or not you will attend no later than Friday, Nov 28.
This month, we return to Camp Oh-Da-Ko-Ta for our annual Wild Webelos Weekend. It’s always a blast to be there and this year will be no different. Expect a big crowd with lots of eager Webelos. You can get your Permission Slip here for the weekend. Remember, the permission slip and $15 cash for food are both due on Nov 10.
It’s nearly time for our annual Wild Webelos Weekend Invitational! While every campout is fun, this one is also important! We have invited area Webelos Scouts to come out to Camp Lakota and spend some time with us. Be sure to be there and help the Webelos choose Troop 96! Your permission slip (get it here) is due on Monday, November 16 with $15 cash for food.
Here is a fantastic opportunity to earn Law Merit Badge with four current judges at the Lake County Courthouse! Law Merit Badge Day is only held once a year and is limited to just 75 Scouts. Cost is $6. To participate, grab the flyer and register now.
The College of Lake County has a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Program that is open to anyone interested in attending.
Set aside the second Thursday evening of each month to explore a wide range of topics including engineering, climate change, robotics, epidemiology, computer science and an overall understanding of STEM opportunities. Here’s some upcoming examples:
What a fantastic outing we have planned for this month!
We will travel to Channahon State Park on Friday night. We’ll get up on Saturday morning, fix breakfast, pack our gear and head out – either on bikes or on foot – your choice. We will re-group at Dollinger Farms for their annual Civil War Days and eat lunch with one of the Armies. Afterward, we will watch the battle re-enactment. Later, we will hike/bike to McKinley Woods for Saturday’s overnight camping. Situated on the water where the Des Plaines and Kankakee Rivers converge, it’s a great place to spend a night. On Sunday morning, retrieve the cars from Channahon then pack up and head home.
You can grab this month’s permission slip here. Cost for the weekend is $22 ($15 for food plus $7 to enter the Civil War battlefield). Please return the permission slip and your money (Cash only) at the Oct 13th meeting.
