What Adults Do on Scout CampoutsHere is some information we try to give parents on their first campout with the troop.Camping is the heart of Boy Scouting, so please take a few minutes to read this sheet. Boy Scouting is absolutely different from Cub Scouting or Webelos! And while parents (and sometimes whole families) often accompany the Scouts on campouts, the Scouts camp with their patrol and not with their parents and family members. |

Scouts, can you tie this knot? If so, get your whole patrol together and show me!The first entire patrol that can tie this knot correctly (and tell me the name and when to use it) will get a prize for their kitchen box!

You won't need your GPS unit to find the Geocaching merit badge requirements. They're right here. The merit badge pamphlet is not yet available, but the Boy Scouts of America wanted to get the official requirements in the hands of Scouts as soon as possible. Here are a few highlights of what Scouts will learn while earning Geocaching merit badge: - How GPS technology works
- Steps for finding and logging a cache
- How to use geocaching.com, the official online home of geocaching
The majority of the merit badge involves Scouts searching for geocaches. You'll also have the opportunity to create and hide your own caches.
Click here to download the PDF that contains the final, official requirements. |

More than 15 years ago, I wrote an article for the Troop 96 Gazette that described the new Video Game Merit Badge. That particular Gazette was distributed on April 1st, so you'd be right if you thought it was an April Fool's joke. Fast forward to April 2010 and the BSA has just announce a new Video Game activity loop that Cub Scouts can earn. No joke. Click HERE to watch the video. Check out the requirements, too. |
