New Scout Induction Ceremony PDF Print E-mail
Written by Pat Klemens

In 2010, the Patrol Leaders Council began using a new ceremony to welcome the newest Scouts into the Troop.  This ceremony is designed to make the new Scouts feel special about their Boy Scout rank and to let them know that they are now full members of our troop.

The idea for this ceremony goes back to a conversation Assistant Scoutmaster Jim Kaar had with two Eagle Scouts who were formerly in our troop.  They commented that "anyone" can join Boy Scouts just by filling in an application and coming to meetings.  But they wondered if it could be more ceremonial when you actually became a member of Troop 96!  Click Read More (below) for more details as well as the script we use...

BSA Patches onboard the Space Shuttle PDF Print E-mail

Continuing its long relationship with Scouting, NASA announced that four Boy Scouts of America patches were launched into space on Discovery's STS-131 mission.

Four Year of Celebration patches (click Read More) are on board as the space shuttle rockets toward the International Space Station. It's NASA's way of marking the BSA's 100th Anniversary and the rich tradition of Scouts becoming astronauts.

"This collaboration between the BSA and NASA underscores a long history between Scouting and space programs," said BSA Chief Scout Executive Bob Mazzuca. "At the earliest opportunities in Scouting, we are exposing young people to space exploration and preparing them for future work in science and technology fields."
